"Peg Stookey, The Legacy Center"

Career change happens. You lose a job. Take a package. Decide to leave. Buy a business. Close a business. The Legacy Center helps people take control and make a change on their terms. Peg Stookey is the founder of The Legacy Center and an OfficeKey Client. Get to know Peg in her client spotlight!

Tell us about The Legacy Center.

  • In its current iteration, The Legacy Center is just me. I help professionals that are employed, unemployed and self-employed to lead their future career/business success by providing career coaching and leadership training. Many of my career clients are in a job change situation so we work on “Change Readiness” and job search confidence.
  • I lead mastermind sessions for solo business owners to help them accelerate their success.
  • Because it’s a necessary tool for all of my clients, I spend considerable time helping them with overall personal branding, LinkedIn, resumes, elevator speeches, networking, etc.
  • The personal branding work has become so integral and enjoyable that I’m in the process of launching a new company, MaxPotential U and rebranding myself as a Personal Brand and Career Strategist. This is truly where my heart is; helping professionals to unleash their unlimited potential in order to create better work, life, relationships, retirements, etc.

Who is your ideal client?

  • Proactive, employed or unemployed professionals who want to go further, faster. Many of my cli
ents come from P&G because I have a Change Readiness program that qualifies for their retraining benefit which is a huge win-win for them!
  • Solopreneurs who don’t want to be alone on their entrepreneurial journey, want help to lead their success as a business owner and also want to help others do the same. I offer individual strategic leadership training/coaching as well as small group mastermind and accountability sessions which I facilitate.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

  • I’m especially good at helping others see what they can’t: what’s good and right about them AND what they can do with that insight. I LOVE helping people to quickly make a huge turn-around, achieve more than they ever thought possible and learn to embrace change and uncertainty. This is transformational work which is extremely fulfilling.
  • Another aspect that I LOVE is that I work with brilliant people who have very different experiences and knowledge. I’m privileged to get to know them at such a deep level and learn from them.
  • Finally, I’m a StrengthFinder® believer! I’ve created a business model that leverages my top strengths of Futuristic, Strategic, Ideator, Activator and Maximizer. People often will say things like, “Wow! Your strengths really match your work!” It’s actually more strategic than that. I’ve created work that leverages my strengths. With very little effort, my work is joyful because I get to use the best of me nearly every single day!

What is the best career advice you were ever given?

Be authentic. Don’t try to be someone else, even if it seems to be what is demanded or expected of you. I struggled as a franchise consultant with the “good ol’ boys” way of doing the business. Ironically, it was a man who was hired by one of the “boys” to do a session on networking best practices who gave that advice. It transformed my approach and lifted a 5-ton weight from my shoulders. It was then that I started to succeed and then that I realized that I didn’t want to be part of that particular group. My first company, Legacy Connection, LLC was born not long after and I’ve never looked back. Another irony: I LOVE working with men (50%+ of my clients are men) and they sincerely appreciate my approach. I guess it’s both insightful and refreshing for them to have professional, purposeful, heartfelt conversations that help them explore areas that they’ve never traversed before.

What do you enjoy most about your partnership with OfficeKey?

  • I really appreciate that I can present a professional presence without having to invest in a full-time office. I’ve done the Panera/Starbucks approach and even had a dedicated office for several years. In order to do my best work as a coach and strategist, I need a quiet office space. I also need space for groups to meet and to do workshops. The diversity and flexibility really work for me.
  • I LOVE that there are 5 locations so that it’s convenient for me to meet my clients where they are.
  • Finally, the staff rocks!!

How do you spend time outside of work?

I read a lot and love to cook, garden, play with our dogs and grandkids. I’m especially interested in learning about nutrition and how food acts as medicine when used correctly. It’s been pretty shocking to realize that nearly everything I’ve learned about nutrition is wrong.

What is the last book that you read?

I’m reading Food: What the Heck Should We Eat by Mark Hyman. It’s easily the most comprehensive, credible and life-changing nutrition/wellness book I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot of them).

"Administrative Professionals Day – April 25, 2018"

Administrative Professionals DayAdministrative Professionals Day is one that we hold in high regard at OfficeKey.  Our staff works day in and day out to keep all of our clients’ businesses running smoothly. Schedules are regularly adjusted in order to assist with whatever need walks through the door, calls on the phone or pops up in the inbox. We are very mindful of the privilege and trust that our clients have given us. It goes without saying that they have earned a day to honor their hard work.

Once a year we celebrate each other on this day and make it a point to get together and enjoy a nice lunch as a team.  With five office locations spread across the city, it is a rare occasion that our staff is able to gather in one place.  This is the one day out of the year that we do so during business hours. Thank you to all of our clients for trusting us with the details of their office and allowing us to spend this time together.

"OfficeKey Partnerships & Affiliations"

There are many professional associations and chambers in Cincinnati that are a key part of our local business community.  OfficeKey has long valued our partnerships with many of these organizations.  We clearly see the value in investing in these groups that support many of the industries that our clients are part of and our region at large.  They also provide a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with others  within the industry that we don’t know yet.  We recently added a list of partner affiliations to our website.  Please check it out by following this link.  If you are familiar with any groups that are potentially a fit but are not represented, please let us know.

"Meet Dennis Devlin of Consumer Clarity"

Q: Tell us about Consumer Clarity.

A: Consumer Clarity is a consumer insight and marketing/branding strategy consultancy. While we do have a specialty in millennial and Gen Z consumers, we conduct research, marketing, and branding work for both B2C and B2B companies.

Q: Who is your ideal client?

A: Consumer Clarity works primarily with consumer product manufacturers (including consumer packaged goods firms) and consumer service providers. Additionally, we have strategic partnerships with many different types of marketing, communications/PR, branding and insights agencies.

Q: As a recent president of the local American Marketing Association chapter, how has that involvement with the AMA benefited you and your business?

A: In one word, exposure. My involvement in leading the Cincinnati chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2013-2014 elevated my stature in the Cincinnati marketing community and it continues to this day as I currently serve as the Chair of the CMO Roundtable, a partnership between the AMA Cincinnati chapter and the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.

Q: What do you like most about your partnership with OfficeKey?

Consumer Clarity

A: That’s an easy one – the people. The decision to become a client of OfficeKey when I began my business about 8.5 years ago was one of the best decisions I made for the business. The quality of the people stands out most for me as what I like most about the partnership with OfficeKey.

Q: How do you spend time outside of work?

A: Over the past few years I have become an urban dweller and have centered much of my attention on my adopted hometown of Covington. So, much of my time outside of work – and outside the AMA volunteering – is spent with family and friends scoping out places in Covington, which has been experiencing a renaissance. I like to say that Covington is a city of character, full of characters.

Q: If you could have dinner with one historical figure (living or dead) who would it be and why?

A: We might question whether he is truly a “historical: figure, but my response for a dinner companion would be Tony Robbins – he has had a significant impact on how I view my life and my business. I have seen him in action, so I am certain it would be an enlightening dinner.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

A: My desired superpower? Mindreading. I could find probably a thousand ways being able to read minds would help me in my business.

Q: What is your favorite movie or tv show?

A: My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. I am not much of a fan of prison movies, but this movie has two great messages, illustrated by the following quotes:

“Remember, . .  . hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”

“I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.”

Q: What is your favorite book?

A: My favorite book is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – a classic. I appreciate the wisdom in learning how to become effective in our lives.

Q: What is your favorite singer or band?

A: My favorite band is U2 – I was able to see them live for the first time in 2017 in Louisville, and I am heading to Nashville in May to see them live again.

"2018 Annual OfficeKey Staff Meeting"

2018 Annual OfficeKey Staff MeetingWith five locations and 12 staff members, it is not very often that the OfficeKey team has the opportunity to gather in one place.  Therefore each January we convene for an annual meeting that allows us to get together in the same room and work on ways to continually improve our service offering.

This January our team met at Union Hall on a snowy Saturday morning.  Located in OTR, Union Hall is the startup hub for Cincinnati entrepreneurs and is the home to Cintrifuse, The Brandery, and CincyTech.  We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the facility from Cintrifuse’s Operations Manager Laura Hughes, and her assistant tour guide/dog George.  The in-depth look at their organization offered great inspiration to our staff in ways that we can rethink our own offices.

A large portion of our day was focused on the development of the Four Quadrants of Workspace that we featured in the October 2017 version of OfficeKey Monthly. Specifically, we focused on private workspaces, maker spaces, coworking, hospitality and after-hours access.  Several of the ideas discussed will hopefully be put in to practice in 2018.

The day was not all business as we enjoyed a fantastic lunch from nearby Panino.  We also got to surprise our very own Jason Campbell with a baby shower. Overall it was a successful meeting and it put us on track toward accomplishing our primary goal which is adding value to the OfficeKey service and those in our community.
