Meet Tim Kelly of Grandin Solutions

Grandin Solutions is a Cincinnati based professional services firm serving corporate clients with high quality, flexible, value-driven, common-sense solutions. They deliver on project-based initiatives, filling the void between public accounting firms and staffing firms. Grandin’s managing partner Tim Kelly is this month’s Client Spotlight:

Q: What is the best part of your profession?

A: We help clients deal with projects, initiatives, issues, and change. The best part is taking chaos from our client’s plate and turning that into order while helping them to succeed.

Q: What did you want to be when you were younger?

A: When I was very young, I thought the bee’s knees was Evel Knievel, who was a stunt motorcycle rider.

Q: What was the last book you read and did you learn anything meaningful?

A: I am trying to “read” or listen to a book every week or two. My best recommendation from the recent list is “Never Split the Difference” by Christopher Voss and Tahl Raz.  It is based on negotiating with hostages but packed with great ideas for day-to-day communication.

Q: How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?

A: Confused and bored! I’m not sure there is much appeal with what we do for a 10-year-old.  Motorcycle stunts will be much more exciting.

Tim Kelly of Grandin SolutionsQ: What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

A: I have been very fortunate to love most of my jobs. I did have a couple of tours of duty in the back end of restaurants in my teens.  That was definitely not for me.

Q: Do you believe in having a five-year plan?

A: Yes; working on one now.

Q: What motivates you?

A: Solving problems; making a difference; any kind of competition.

Q: What is your definition of success?

A: Being the best version of yourself.

Q: What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

This is such a hypothetical since I do not buy lottery tickets. I am not that enthralled with things, but I could certainly find a very impractical car to waste some money on.
